What to know

Nearly twice the strength of 6082 but around double the price, poorer corrosion resistance and not weldable. Use only when the strength is needed.

Design tips

Anodizing adds 5–25 µm (Type II) and changes hole sizes slightly; mask precision bores or state that dimensions apply after coating.

Cheaper alternative

Aluminium 6082-T6: If the part is not highly loaded, 6082 costs about half as much and resists corrosion better.
